Federica Coppola (Presidential Scholar in Society and Neuroscience 2017-2020) has published her book, The Emotional Brain and the Guilty Mind: Novel Paradigms of Culpability and Punishment. Federica considers behavioral and neuroscientific insights to help reframe the normative narrative of the 'culpable person' in American criminal law through a more humanizing lens. The book helps advance a paradigm of punishment that positions social rehabilitation as its core principle.
