The River That Made Texas cover

In 2019, Scot McFarlane received a Center for Science and Society Public Outreach Grant to create a publicly accessible digital platform for mapping and narrating lived history along North American rivers. Confluence: The History of North American Rivers included a story map tracing key moments in the history of the Trinity River in Texas.

This month, Scot is publishing a book on the Trinity River. Half of Texas's population depends on the river, but a full history of it has never been compiled. The River That Made Texas explores how the Trinity River shaped the state's politics, economy, and environment for centuries.

Congratulations, Scot!
