"This was a best case scenario. I had never had a best case scenario happen in my entire life until then." When Christopher Medina-Kirchner was accepted into Columbia University's PhD program in psychology, he couldn't believe it. Recently, Christopher was featured in a PBS NOVA segment exploring scientists who began their careers while incarcerated.

At Columbia, he has received two Center for Science and Society Public Outreach Grants for his Formerly Incarcerated Research & Science Training (FIRST) Program. The FIRST program trains formerly incarcerated students to address social justice issues through interdisciplinary scientific research.
