Changing lives that change the world

Support Center for Science and Society Seed Grants

On Wednesday, October 28, the Center for Science and Society will join with schools and departments across Columbia University to support students, scholars, and faculty for Columbia Giving Day.

This year, all donations made to the Center will support our Seed Grant program. Since 2014, donations have helped support 28 Seed Grants awarded to students, faculty, and scholars for interdisciplinary projects connecting the natural sciences with the humanities, arts, or social sciences. Projects might include small research collaborations and pilot studies, support for internal discussion groups and journal clubs, inviting an external speaker or organizing a conference. Seed Grants give students and scholars the opportunity to tackle pressing issues affecting science and society and help them to be more informed researchers, scholars, and citizens.

  • Over 75% of our Seed Grants have been awarded to undergraduate and graduate students.
  • Members of 26 departments have been awarded Seed Grants.
  • Approximately 30% of Seed Grants have been awarded to co-recipients representing at least two different departments.
  • 100% of surveyed Awardees would recommend applying for a Center for Science and Society Seed Grant
