Environmental Humanities Grants awarded

The Center for Science and Society is thrilled to announce its first round of Environmental Humanities Grant awardees. Funds will support projects that center the humanities in the study of environmental problems and the climate crisis. 

This grant program is part of the Center for Science and Society's Co-Production of Knowledge Initiative and funded by the Mellon Foundation.

Over $18,000 in funds were awarded. Our 2025 recipients are:

  • Black River Environmental Humanities Initiative led by
    • Ton-Nu Nguyen (graduate student)
    • Quynh Luong (graduate student)
  • The House Underfoot or the Sunken Garden: Waste, Ground, and Flooding in Late Industrial Urban America led by
    • Catherine Fennell (Associate Professor)
    • Andrew Bauer (Associate Professor at Stanford University)
    • Marcus de la Fleur (landscape architect)
    • Rebecca Graff (Associate Professor at Lake Forest College)
    • Shemuel Israel (President of North Lawndale Greening Committee)
  • Restoring/Restorying: Sugbo Seed Archive led by
    • Taylor Mitchell (graduate student)
    • Crina E. TaƱongon (Assistant Professor at University of the Philippines Cebu)
