Kristina Douglass, a Center for Science and Society Advisory Committee Member and Associate Professor of Climate, was recently awarded a MacArthur Fellowship. The honor, often called a “genius” grant, recognizes exceptional creativity and dedication across disciplines and includes an $800,000 no-strings-attached stipend.
Kristina's work investigates how human societies and environments have co-evolved and adapted to climate variability over time. Her community-based research in southwest Madagascar is built on longstanding collaborations with local and Indigenous communities.
This award was announced during Kristina's Social Memory and Climate Change Residency at the Center for Science and Society. This residency welcomed elders from Andavadoaka, Madagascar to celebrate intergenerational exchange, ecological knowledge, and the power of art through lectures, workshops, and oral history sessions.
