The Center for Science and Society is excited to open its ninth application cycle of Seed Grants. Seed Grants support innovative interdisciplinary projects involving the study of science in society that require modest amounts of seed money to initiate collaborative research and programming.
As part of the Center’s efforts to build an academic space that is more just, equitable, and accessible, and to foster diverse voices and audiences, we ask that each applicant consider how their proposed project may support the Center’s ongoing efforts to promote diversity, equity, inclusion, and anti-racism in policies, systems, and spaces in science and society.
All full-time junior faculty, students, and postdocs at Columbia University, Barnard College, and Teachers College are eligible to apply, and proposals are welcomed especially from undergraduate and graduate students.
Past Seed Grant projects include:
- A workshop series for graduate students on science communication in academic and public contexts; storytelling with scientific tools; bridging the gap between research and practice; and best field practices.
- Producing a play that considers gentrification through a psychological perspective
- An undergraduate-led podcast that explores understudied science stories.
- A joint project between undergraduate students and the National Oceanic Atmospheric Administration to map coastal community vulnerability in the Southeastern United States.
