Event Description
Stacy Davis Gates, vice president of the Chicago Teachers Union, will give the season’s debut lecture addressing the topic of organized labor, racial justice, and schools. In the past decade, the CTU has become one of the most visible and successful labor unions in the country. It organized two successful strikes that not only raised wages for its members but also addressed the larger social context of education, ensuring schools with a nurse and social worker and support for students with precarious housing. She will discuss the Union's remarkable success and its work during a time of multiple crises.
