Event Description
This event will examine emerging uses of DNA testing for family reunification across contexts including armed conflict, disasters, and migration-related separations. Speakers will explore how genetic kinship identification technologies are being used in practice and discuss the governance frameworks needed to ensure that their use protects the rights and privacy of affected individuals and communities while minimizing the potential for misuse of genetic data. The session will highlight key policy and ethical challenges facing the responsible uses of DNA technologies in humanitarian and crisis settings.
