Event Description

Loss can shape clinical care during illness and impending death. A patient, a family member, and a care provider may each be grieving differently, even as they face decisions together. Care may require weighing a patient’s wishes alongside a family’s hope, speaking honestly about what a treatment can achieve, and deciding to provide care when a cure is no longer possible. These challenges may create moral distress. Drawing on the perspectives of chaplaincy and nursing, this event will consider how grief shapes decisions, relationships and the practice of care.
