Event Description

Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) when holding people in civil detention, is bound by a constitutional obligation to provide medical care. Meeting this obligation depends on the participation of physicians, nurses, and other clinicians working within immigrant prisons, most of whom are employed by private prison operators. This event examines the structure of medical care inside immigration detention, and potential conflicts of interest when clinicians must be in alignment with company "values and mission,” that may be in tension with a core tenet that physician loyalty belongs to the patient alone.
