Job Opportunity: Assistant Professor of Anthropology, Rice University

October 15, 2020

Eligibility:

Candidates must have a PhD or equivalent degree.

Description:

The Department of Anthropology at Rice University invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of assistant professor to begin July 1, 2021. As part of university-wide effort to support the newly-created Center for African and African American Studies, we seek a medical anthropologist and/or STS scholar focused on race and health or biomedicine in Africa or the African diaspora. We are committed to an expansive understanding of African and African American studies as a field of research and theoretical innovation that belongs to the center of our field, not to its margins. Faculty members are expected to perform research, publish scholarly articles and books, and to keep up with current research in the field. They also teach classes at the graduate and undergraduate level, supervise and grade student work, and serve on committees within the university, in addition to performing service to the profession at large.
